About

Planning tile work for floors, walls, and wet areas

Tile installation starts with the room and the surface beneath it. We discuss whether the work covers a floor, wall, shower, backsplash, entry, or another finish area, then review tile size, pattern, edges, grout, and transitions. The base matters as much as the visible tile. Cracks, movement, moisture, and uneven surfaces can affect the finished work, so the scope should include those conditions when they are present. A small repair may need a different plan than a full surface replacement. Tile also needs to fit the wider project. Our design and build team coordinates tile with cabinetry, countertops, lighting, fixtures, flooring, plumbing, and electrical work when the remodel includes those parts. We recommend a defined scope before material choices are finalized.

What Tile Installation Covers

Tile installation is a construction service that places tile over a prepared floor or wall surface.

  • Tile installation differs from flooring replacement because it includes layout, bonding, grout joints, edge details, and surface preparation.
  • Local relevance depends on the property, room use, existing surface, and whether plumbing or electrical work joins the project.
Process

Steps from tile consultation to finished surface

1

Review the room and surface

We discuss the room, existing finish, access, damage, moisture signs, and the result you want.

2

Set the tile scope

We define the areas, tile type, pattern, grout, edges, transitions, and related remodel work before pricing is prepared.

3

Plan the layout

We check measurements, starting points, cuts, corners, fixture locations, and visual alignment across the surface.

4

Coordinate connected work

We align tile with cabinets, counters, flooring, fixtures, plumbing, electrical work, and other project details when needed.

5

Complete and review the finish

We install the planned surface, review grout and edges, and organize the final handover with the project scope.

What to prepare before tile work

A few decisions and photos help us understand the room before the consultation.

  • Photographs of the room and existing tile.
  • The room dimensions and the areas you want changed.
  • Your preferred tile material, color, pattern, or finish.
  • Details about cracks, loose tile, staining, or past water damage.
  • A list of nearby cabinets, counters, fixtures, plumbing, or electrical work.

Our Standard

Detailed Planning

We map tile areas, materials, layouts, connected trades, and handover details from the first consultation through completion.

We check surface condition, tile alignment, grout joints, edges, transitions, and fixture lines during the tile project.

Integrated Remodeling

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

Leaving a long overdue review. Linda helped us remodel our bathroom and kitchen last year. We also did some flooring improvements, and some electrical and plumbing work along the way. The pricing was very reasonable, and we appreciated that Linda was always conscious of our budget, when we made adjustments to our plan. The work was delivered very quickly on promised timelines. She had some really good suggestions around the choice of flooring, which we are thankful for (especially looking back after a year). Also appreciate her sense of style.. it helped us make the right choices for countertops, tiles and fixtures. It all looks great, our guests often comment on how beautiful our kitchen looks. Thank you!

After experiencing water damage in our home, we needed to replace all our flooring, some kitchen cabinets, and redo our primary bath. Linda and her team truly saved the day after a disappointing experience with another contractor. She worked closely with us to choose the perfect tiles for our bathroom and find flooring that suited our home. Her contractors did exceptional work, from leveling the floors to installation and cabinet remaking, all while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Linda answered all our questions along the way, and we cannot speak highly enough of the work she and her team performed!

Questions about planning and installing tile

Who provides tile installation in Snoqualmie?

HomeRemodelSnoqualmie.info provides tile installation for residential and commercial projects in Snoqualmie and nearby areas. We scope floors, walls, showers, backsplashes, and finish upgrades as part of wider remodeling work. Our team can also coordinate tile with cabinetry, countertops, fixtures, flooring, plumbing, and electrical work when those items share the project.

What changes the cost of a tile project?

The room size, tile material, surface condition, layout, cuts, edges, grout, access, and related work shape the project cost. A simple backsplash has a different scope from a shower or full floor replacement. We discuss these details during a free consultation, then prepare a quote around the defined work.

Can tile go directly over a wood subfloor?

Tile should not go directly over an unsuitable wood subfloor because movement can crack tile and grout. The base needs review before the finish is planned. We check the surface, room use, moisture exposure, and adjoining materials, then explain the preparation included in the quote.

What should go beneath bathroom floor tile?

Bathroom floor tile needs a suitable, stable base that matches the room and moisture conditions. The right preparation depends on the existing floor, movement, damage, and planned finish. We inspect the base and explain the needed scope before tile, grout, edges, and transitions are selected.

How do I choose between ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone?

Ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone fit different room uses, surface needs, looks, and care routines. We compare the material against the floor or wall, water exposure, pattern, edge details, and surrounding finishes. Bring your preferred samples or design ideas to the consultation so the choice fits the full project.

What does the 3-4-5 rule mean for tile layout?

The 3-4-5 rule is a layout check that helps confirm a square corner. It uses proportional measurements to test whether lines meet at a right angle. We use layout checks with room measurements, wall lines, fixture locations, and planned cuts so the finished pattern fits the space.

How should I prepare for a tile consultation?

Photos, room measurements, material ideas, damage notes, and fixture locations make a tile consultation more useful. Include details about cabinets, counters, flooring, plumbing, and electrical work that may connect to the area. We use those details to define the tile scope and identify related project decisions.

Key Points About Tile Installation

  • The substrate affects tile performance and needs review before installation.
  • Tile size and pattern change cuts, edges, grout lines, and visual alignment.
  • Backsplashes must fit cabinets, counters, outlets, and wall conditions.
  • Ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone require different finish decisions.
  • A defined scope helps separate focused repair from full surface replacement.

Scenarios

When Customers Call Us About Tile Installation

1

Cracked Tile After Water Damage

Water damage can affect flooring, cabinets, and bathroom finishes at the same time. Tile replacement should account for the base and nearby materials, not only the visible crack. Gather photos of the affected room and note any loose tile, staining, or swollen trim before a consultation.

2

New Backsplash With Cabinet Changes

A backsplash must fit the cabinet run, countertop edge, outlets, and wall surface. Small layout changes can alter cuts and border placement, so the tile scope should follow the cabinet and counter plan. Share your design choices and fixture locations before the installation plan is set.

3

Commercial Finish With Limited Disruption

A retail or office tile project needs a clear work area and a plan for nearby operations. The scope should identify access, finish zones, fixtures, and handover needs before work begins. Property managers can share site rules and preferred work areas during the consultation.
